EUGENE, Ore. – BYU track and field’s Courtney Wayment ran a career-best 9:27.17 to advance to the women’s steeplechase final in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday at Hayward Field.
In order to make the U.S. Olympic Team, athletes must place in the top three of their respective final at the U.S. Olympic Trials and have recently hit the Olympic standard in the event. Wayment’s time put her under the Olympic standard of 9:30.00, setting her up to make the Olympic team should she finish in the top three in the 3000m steeplechase final.
Wayment placed second in her heat and had the fourth-fastest time in the entire semifinals. She will contend for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in the women's steeplechase final on Thursday, June 24 at 8:47 p.m. PDT.
