Robison Invite a Success

PROVO, Utah – In the final home meet of the 2012 season, the BYU women’s track and field team recorded seven first place finishes and several season bests at the annual Robison Invitational.

Freshman Lexi Eaton continued her strong outdoor season with a victory in the high jump with a leap of 1.78-meters (5-10.00). Senior Diana Blauer cleared the same height in more attempts to finish second, while Taylor Stapley and Ada Robinson finished third and fourth, respectively.

Also picking up a win in the field was Allyson Anderson, who won the javelin with a throw of 49.36m (161-11.25). Teammate Amber Freeman Huntington finished second with a season best toss of 44.76m (146-10.25).

Multi-event athlete Elizabeth Wilson snagged a victory in the triple jump with a season best jump of 12.02m (39-5.25). Melissa Keltner managed a second place finish in the event with a leap of 11.64m (38-2.25).

On the track, senior Fatima Makakala led the way in the sprints with a win in the 100m hurdles in 14.09. Taylor Stapley crossed the line just behind Makakala in second in 14.22. In the 400m hurdles, Angela Shields finished second in 1:00.63 and Diane Stewart ended up in third in 1:01.19.

Jenessa Carlson won the 800m in 2:10.89 and was the lone Cougar to win a middle distance event. In the longer distances, Lisa Drury took first in the 3000m steeplechase in 10:50.00 and Katherine Swanson won the 5000m in 18:01.18.

Sophomore Aubrey Hale narrowly missed out on a win in the 100m but set a season best in the event with a time of 11.87.

BYU athletes took three of the top four places in the pole vault. Senior Christen Guenther took first with a vault of 4.02m (13-2.25) while Rachel Fisher finished third by clearing the same height in more attempts. Freshman Nicole Naatjes took fourth with a mark of 3.92m (12-10.25).

In the throws, freshman Brianna French led the way with a fourth place finish in the discus and a sixth place finish in the shot put. Martha Shephard finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.36m (168-06).

The Cougars will continue their season on Wednesday May 2 at the Weber State Twilight. Following the meet at Weber State, BYU will compete in its final regular season meet at Georgia Tech before beginning the postseason at the NCAA West Regional on May 24.
