Four Cougars collect AVCA All-Pacific South Region honors

PROVO, Utah – Four BYU women’s volleyball players received American Volleyball Coaches Association regional honors, the organization announced Tuesday.

Junior outside hitter Veronica Jones-Perry and sophomore libero Mary Lake received AVCA All-Pacific South Region First Team honors while senior middle blocker Cosy Burnett and sophomore outside hitter McKenna Miller collected All-Pacific South Region Honorable Mention accolades.

Jones-Perry led the West Coast Conference this year in kills per set (4.95) and points per set (5.86) and was second in aces per set (0.45) and 10th in hitting percentage (.300). She was also named to the All-WCC First Team.

Lake averages 4.55 digs per set, most on the team and in the WCC, while contributing 1.12 assists and 0.23 aces per set. She was also added to the All-WCC First Team and was named the WCC Defender of the Year.

Burnett averages 1.33 blocks per set while contributing offensively with 2.23 kills per set, hitting at a team-best .340 hitting percentage. She was named to the All-WCC First Team.

Miller helps out the Cougar squad with 3.15 kills per set, second-best on the team. She has also added 70 digs and 50 blocks on the year. Miller was named All-WCC Honorable Mention at the end of conference play.

This is the first all-region honor for Jones-Perry, Lake and Burnett. Miller was previously named to the first team as a freshman.

The Cougars face No. 4 seed Kentucky in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament Friday at noon EST in Lexington, Kentucky.
