Hamson Named WCC Player of the Month

PROVO, Utah—Dual-sport athlete Jennifer Hamson received West Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Month accolades for stellar performances during the month of September. She averaged 4.05 kills and 1.26 blocks while leading the BYU women’s volleyball team to an 11-1 record for the month.

At 6-foot-6, the sophomore opposite hitter proved an invaluable presence for the Cougars on offense and defense. Hamson recorded 170 kills, which put her at the top of the conference, on .314 hitting. She also had 110 digs and 53 blocks for the second most on her team in both categories.

Hamson set a new career high for kills in the last match of the month, with 21 against Loyola Marymount, and totaled 33 for the two league matches played in September. She had 14 total blocks for the Saint Mary’s and LMU matches and 14 digs.

Hamson will also compete in women’s basketball starting in November and will balance practices and competitions for both sports through the month.

Fans can watch Hamson and the Cougars tonight at 7 p.m. at the Smith Fieldhouse when they take on Santa Clara. The match will be televised on BYUtv.
