PROVO -- On the opening day of the BYU Invitational the women's tennis team finished undefeated as every Cougar won their matches both in the singles and doubles draws.
With a perfect start at this week's Invitational, head coach Craig Manning is pleased with the effort of each player.
"I'm extremely happy with the way we played today," Manning said. "It couldn't have been a better day. Each girl gave it their all and we came out with some great wins."
On the first day of the BYU Invitational last year, the Cougars only had one player advance to the second round in singles. Manning said that winning all nine matches was a real boost for the team.
In the singles draw BYU's Nicole Schneider blanked Karla Pretorius of Weber State 6-0, 6-0 while doubles team Lauren Jones and Rebecca Pike shut out Weber State's Chelsee Drews and Kate Enningia 8-0.
"We have a lot of young players this year," Manning said. "Winning this early just builds their confidence as a team. We will have to play just as tough tomorrow, we have a lot more tennis to play."
Play will continue Friday, as the first singles match begins at 10 a.m. and the last doubles draw begins at 3:30 p.m.
