EUGENE -- Two BYU men's volleyball players were named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large teams, Jonathan Alleman and Fernando Pessoa.
The two teams represent 20 student-athletes from 14 different schools. Another interesting trend of the 2004 teams is that for the first time, 10 student-athletes -- or half of the selections -- hail from outside the United States.
The at-large team encompasses the sports of golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, fencing, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis volleyball, water polo and wrestling, and was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states. These include Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Columbia. The all-district first team selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released June 15.
