BYU's 21st ranked women's tennis team opens its season Thursday with the annual BYU Invitational held on their newly resurfaced courts.
The University of Denver, Colorado State, Boise State, New Mexico, Utah and Weber will all make the trip to Provo and compete in the three-day tournament. The Invitational starts Thursday at 9 am and continues to the finals on Saturday.
The Cougars return this year with a lot of experience. They are led by junior sensation Hadley Macfarlane who after playing nearly 60 singles matches as a Cougar, has only lost 11 times.
The Cougars also hope to capitalize on the experience of Senior Rebecca Pike, Junior Olga Boulytcheva and Sophomores Lauren Jones, Sofia Holden and Hanni Wittenbecher.
Rounding out the team is the talented freshman class of Dolly Chang, Jennifer Miccoli, Anastasia Sourkova and Breanna Williamson. They are anxious to prove themselves and will all get the chance to compete for the first time as Cougars.
After the Finals match on Saturday, the tennis team will host a free clinic for its fan club members and others interested in participating. Pizza will be served afterwards.
