Lawrence, Kan. (January 29, 2005)-- In the final match of their Kansas road trip, the 25th ranked Cougars finally seemed to pull all the loose ends together as they swept the Kansas Jayhawks 7-0.

"We played well today," said head coach Craig Manning. "For the first time this year we played like we know we can."

The effort was lead by BYU's number 1 singles player Sophomore Lauren Jones. In a dogfight, she overcame Kansas' Elizaveta Avdeeva 1-6,6-1,6-1. Jones started off slow, losing the first set but came on fire in the second and third only yielding one game apiece in the sets.

Cougar Olga Boulytcheva, playing at the two singles spot for the first time this year, had a stellar evening. The Russian was just too much to handle for KU's Christine Skoda as she won 6-1,6-0.

BYU's depth also had a strong showing. Hadley McFarlane, playing sixth singles, beat Jayhawk Luiza Loureiro 6-2,6-4, while freshman Dolly Chang gave up only one game overcoming came Stephanie Smith 6-1,6-0 at the fifth singles spot.

The Cougars took the early lead, winning the doubles point with a 3-0 sweep of the Jayhawks. The Cougars shook the lineup a little as Jones was matched up with Chang at the one doubles spot, followed by MacFarlane and Soukova at the second and Boulytcheva and Holden at the third.

The Cougars return home and prepare for a three-week home stint, with Oklahoma coming February 12 at 11a.m. Overall the Cougars are 4-1 on the year.
