Eugene, Oregon (March 19, 2005)---The 22nd ranked BYU women's tennis team dropped only their third loss of the season as they took a back seat to Oregon 5-2.

BYU pulled ahead early, however, by winning the doubles point. BYU's Lauren Jones and Dolly Chang easily won 8-3, followed by Olga Boulytcheva and Sofia Holden's 8-4 victory. That put the Cougars up 1-0 on the Ducks going into singles.

But in singles play, the Cougars couldn't seem to keep the momentum going. Jones, at the one singles, would drop her match 6-2,7-6, followed by only Boulytcheva's third loss of the year 2-6,6-2,6-2. At the three spot, Anastasia Sourkova fresh off being named Conference Player of the Week cruised to a 6-1,6-3 win. That would even the overall score at 2-2, but it would be the final points of the day for BYU.

At the four spot, Miccoli would go down in a hard fought, three set match 5-7,6-4,6-3 followed by Chang's 6-2,6-3 loss. Pike couldn't quite hang on at the six spot, losing 6-2,6-1.

The Oregon contest was BYU's final match against a non-conference foe. BYU opens up conference play at home against Colorado State on Friday the 25th, followed by Wyoming on Saturday the 26th. The Cougars went 12-3 in non-conference action losing to only 14th ranked Washington, 19th ranked Clemson and 26th ranked Oregon.
