PROVO -- The 22nd ranked BYU women's tennis team rocked Colorado State 7-0 for their second Mountain West Conference win.
The Cougars looked sharp on in doubles play today. BYU's number one doubles players, Anastasia Sourkova and Jennifer Miccoli, cruised to a 8-0 win. Then it was followed by a 8-2 win at two singles by Cougars Lauren Jones and Dolly Chang. Playing in their first doubles match of the year, Hanni Witttenbecher and Breanna Williamson, ran away with their match 8-4.
BYU continued to lay down the heat in singles, as they swept the Rams from one to six. Olga Boulytcheva picked up a sweep at the one singles spot for BYU winning 6-0,6-0. Sourkova picked up a 6-1,6-2 win at two singles to give BYU a 3-0 lead. Sofia Holden secured the win for the blue and white with her 6-1,6-2 win at the three singles spot. Then Miccoli, Chang and Pike picked solid wins at four, five and six singles to complete the BYU sweep.
This is the Cougar's second win over MWC teams and with Wyoming tomorrow and having to play tough New Mexico on the road next weekend, head coach Craig Manning wants his team to remain focused.
"I don't want things to get loose, I want to keep things tight in respect to our team, " Manning said. " I want the team to remain mentally tough."
BYU now advances to 13-3 on the year and 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference. BYU plays Wyoming tomorrow at 10 a.m. on the indoor courts.
