Clemson, S.C.(March 7, 2005)--BYU's 24th ranked women's tennis team dropped only it's second loss of the season against a tough 18th ranked Clemson tennis team 4-3.
BYU got behind early after Jones and Chang dropped their doubles point to Clemson's Coin and Farah 8-4, followed by Anastasia and Miccoli loss to the Tiger's Paun and Salge 8-3. Olga Boulytcheva and Sofia Holden would win the last doubles point.
In singles play, Cougar Lauren Jones dropped a tough match to Julie Coin, the 3rd ranked singles player in the country 6-1,6-2. At two singles, Olga Boulytcheva would give BYU it's first points of the day with an easy 6-4,6-1 win over Clemson's Romy Farah. Then Anastasia Sourkova tied the match at 2-2 with her 6-2,1-0(ret.) win over Alix Lacelarie.
But neither Sofia Holden nor Jennifer Miccoli could get wins at the three and four singles spots as Clemson sneaked by for the 4-3 victory. Rebecca Pike would pick up BYU's third point at six singles with a 4-6,7-5(5), 1-0 win over Tiger Richele Lesaldo.
The loss is only BYU's second all season long. They are now 7-2 on the season. Their next stop is tomorrow against 26th ranked South Carolina.
