COLORADO SPRINGS -- The No. 27 BYU women's tennis team (17-6, 5-2) took the court and dominated for the second day in a row, beating Colorado State 7-0 on Friday. The loss drops Colorado State to 9-11 and 2-5 in the Mountain West Conference.
"We did a great job concentrating," Coach Craig Manning said. "We really seemed to get our game going, and focused where we needed to focus.
One Cougar who really got her game going against the Rams was Jennifer Miccoli. After the Cougars took two-of-three doubles matches, the sophomore came out swinging against Jessica Jones in singles, and exemplified what her coach said about focus. Miccoli left no room in the first match for Jones to operate, getting out ahead and staying there on her way to the 6-1 win. The second verse was the same as the first, and Miccoli went away with the two-set victory 6-1, 6-1. Miccoli is now 9-5 on the year in doubles, and has won five of her last six.
Miccoli's effort was complemented by excellent performances by the rest of the team as well. Rana El Derwy, Dolly Chang and Sofia Holden all earned points for BYU with straight-set wins. Lauren Jones and Anastasia Sourkova had a little rougher go, each of them dropping their first sets. But they fought hard in sets two and three and both were able to pound out victories.
BYU has one match remaining on its conference and season schedule. They play Air Force tomorrow in Colorado Springs at 10 a.m.
