TUCSON -- The BYU men's golf team starting spring competition Monday, finishing day one in 15th place after the second of two rounds was suspended due to darkness at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Arizona.

Senior Cameron Edens, a transfer from Arizona State, led the Cougars in first-round action, posting five birdies on the par-71 Arizona National Golf Course and finishing with a 6-over 77. Edens followed that up with a 1-under 70 in round two and moved into a tie for 31st place going into the final day.

"We've got a lot of work ahead of us," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "I'm excited that we bounced back and did a lot better in the second round."

The Cougars will finish the final three holes of round two tomorrow before completing the third and final round of play on a challenging course.

"It's a tough course to play anytime, especially coming out of the winter," Brockbank said. "We've had success here in the past, but today we had a hard time hitting fairways early on."

Sophomore Zac Blair followed up a first-round 78 with an even-par 71 in round two to move into a tie for 40th place.

Junior Daniel Reid, an Orem native, finished day one tied for 59th after improving on a first-round 78 by posting a 3-over 63 before play was suspended.

Playing in their first collegiate tournament, freshmen Colton Ogden and Justin Keiley saw second-round improvement and sit tied for 64th and in 92nd place respectively.

The remainder of round two and round three will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Arizona National Golf Course. Follow the action live by clicking HERE or visiting www.golfstat.com.
