Fairfax, Calif.--In a four-way tie for third place, the BYU men’s golf team is in a tight race poised to finish strong at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational being played at the Meadow Club Golf Course, Monday.
The Cougars concluded the two rounds 9-under 559. No. 1 ranked Cal led the way with a 35-under 533 total. WCC foe San Francisco was second with a 559 total.
Tied with BYU is No. 22 San Diego State, Wichita State and Colorado State.
“We came out and played pretty well today and we’re in a good position to make a run tomorrow,” said head coach Bruce Brockbank.
Senior Zac Blair had a solid day after birdieing six of the back nine holes for a two round 7-under 135 total, putting him tied in fourth place overall. He shot a 2-under 69 on the first 18 holes on the day.
Justin Keiley, who had the team’s best first round score with a 4-under 67, ended the day 2-under 140 which placed him tied for 24th place.
Adam Tebbs, the other senior on the BYU team, concluded the day 1-over 143, placing him tied in 38th place.
Both Devon Purser and Mike Jurca ended the day with identical scores shooting a 4-over 146, placing the two tied in 55th place.
“I know all the guys are capable of getting good scores and that will be the key for us tomorrow to get out and do our best right at the start,” added coach Brockbank.
The Cougar team plays the third and final round tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PDT. Live stats are available. Follow the BYU players.
