CLEVELAND, Ohio – BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy and wide receiver Cody Hoffman were both selected to Phil Steele’s 2013 Preseason All-America Team released Wednesday. Van Noy is a first-team selection while Hoffman earned second-team honors.

Both electing to finish their senior seasons at BYU before an NFL career, Van Noy and Hoffman make the Cougars one of only nine programs with players named to both the first and second teams, including Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Oregon and TCU.

Van Noy filled the stat sheet again in 2012, becoming the only player to record a statistic in every major defensive category for the second consecutive year. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder totaled 53 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, six forced fumbles (school record), two interceptions, eight quarterback hurries, five pass breakups, two blocked kicks and one fumble recovery. He also scored two touchdowns on defense.

Van Noy finished second in the nation in sacks, tied for No. 2 nationally in forced fumbles and tied for fourth in the country in tackles for loss.

On the offensive side of the ball, Hoffman was BYU’s go-to receiver, notching 100 receptions, 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns during the season. His marks ranked No. 10, No. 12 and tied for No. 13 in the nation.

Entering the 2013 season, Hoffman has an opportunity to become BYU’s career leader receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. With 203 receptions, 2,718 yards and 28 receiving touchdowns, Hoffman needs just 19 receptions, 538 yards and three touchdowns to stand atop each category.

The Cougars open the season at Virginia on Saturday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
