COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kevin Dreesen and Ali Tippetts-Kottcamp led the BYU divers in a highly competitive first place win at Air Force Diving Invite Friday and Saturday at the USAFA Cadet Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“I am very happy with the team's performance,” BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson said. “I am especially pleased with the team's abilities on platform, gaining experience and strengthening their resume that could be a strong addition to conference results in a couple weeks. The divers went above and beyond as a team."

The BYU men placed first overall in the competition and the women placed sixth. Overall, the BYU combined teams took first out of the 12 teams in the tournament.

Tippetts-Kottcamp was the top performer in the women’s 1-meter event, registering a 242.45 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals. She then posted a 231.10 in the finals for twelfth place.

In the women’s 3-meter, Tippetts-Kottcamp notched a 294.55, good enough to qualify her for the finals, where she posted a 292.10 for fourth place overall.

Tippetts-Kottcamp was again the top BYU performer in the platform event, diving to a 205.60, good enough for seventh place.

All four BYU men’s divers qualified for the 1-meter finals, with Dreesen posting the high score of 319.60. In the event finals, Dreesen took fourth with a score of 318.45.

In the 3-meter preliminaries, Dreesen dove to a 354.25 to qualify for the finals, with Matt Denkers and Jordan Tuckfield also making it to the final event. Dreesen finished with a 358.15, good enough for second place.

Denkers was the top performer for BYU in the men’s platform, earning a score of 298.80, which put him in fourth place overall.

BYU will see action next at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swim and Dive Championships on Feb. 17-20 in Monterey Park and Pasadena, Calif.​
