BYU in third after day one of Harbottle Invite

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Competing in the first day of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, BYU women’s golf is in third place after 36 holes of play, Monday. The 15 participating teams are playing at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.

“We had a very good second round that lifted us up,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “It was a great comeback after a poor start. Brooklyn (Hocker), Alex (White) and Rose (Huang) played really well that second round and helped us out a lot.”

Brooklyn Hocker, Rose Huang and Alexandra White are tied for 11th place overall shooting five-over-par. Hocker and White both finished the first round shooting 77 (+5) and 72 in the second. Huang followed with a 78 (+6) in the first round and a 71 (-1) in the second round to match her teammates’ scores.

Kendra Dalton finished at 151 (+7) after the first day of play and is tied for 16th place. Anna Kennedy ended the day tied for 30th place for the Cougars shooting 11-over-par.

BYU sits at 21-over-par as a team and is in third place just behind Washington and Oregon State who lead by +13 and +18, respectively.

The Cougars shot 306 (+18) in the first round of 18 and shot 291 (+3) in the second. West Coast Conference foe, Gonzaga, is currently in sixth place overall, shooting 35-over-par through 36 holes. Utah Valley University is in eighth place and Weber State is in 10th.

“We want to give it our best and make up some ground tomorrow in order to challenge Washington, the current national champions,” coach Roberts said. "We’re going to give them our best competition and see if we can pull it all together.”

BYU will play the third and final round of the Harbottle Invitational, Tuesday. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. PT in a shotgun start. Live stats can be found on the BYU women’s golf schedule page.
