PROVO, Utah — The Cougars finished with a final ranking of No. 8 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, posting a 19-7 overall record and 8-4 record in MPSF play.
BYU men’s volleyball achieved a perfect 14-0 home record in the Smith Fieldhouse for the first time since 2014. (The 2020 team had a 9-0 home record before the season was cut short due to COVID-19).
In his eighth season, Shawn Olmstead accomplished 150 career wins as the BYU men’s volleyball head coach when the Cougars defeated Stanford in four sets on April 14, 2023.
Miks Ramanis was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as part of its 2023 awards. It was the sophomore’s first honor from the AVCA. Ramanis was also named to the 2023 All-MPSF First Team.
Middle blocker Gavin Julien was named 2023 All-MPSF Honorable Mention and Trent Moser was named to the 2023 MPSF All-Freshman Team.
Teon Taylor was nominated as a finalist for Off the Block’s 2023 Blocker of the Year, finishing the season with a career-high of 14 solo blocks and 135 total blocks.
BYU finished in fifth for most blocks per set with an average of 2.39 blocks per set, totaling 102 blocks as a team in the 2023 season.
Overall, the Cougars were ranked for 12 consecutive weeks in the 2023 campaign. BYU held a top-10 ranking in the AVCA Coaches Poll for all but four weeks during the regular season. The Cougars entered the 2023 season unranked.
BYU led the MPSF in attendance, with an average of 3,890 fans per home game.
BYU led the nation in percentage capacity, with home games averaging 77.79% full attendance in 2023.
BYU drew 5,071 fans at its home game against Ohio State on Saturday, March 11 in the Smith Fieldhouse, for a top-two attendance record in the last five years.
The team finished with 1,220 kills, 1,157 assists, 117 aces, 786 digs and 259 blocks in 2023.
