CORINTH, Texas — BYU women’s golf shot a final round 293 to finish 11th at the Sam Golden Invitational on Tuesday.
In her first tournament as a BYU Cougar, freshman Lilly DeNuzio earned a top-25 finish after posting a 4-under-par total for the 54-hole event.
The Las Vegas native carded six birdies in her opening round to lead the Cougars with a 4-under 68 in round one. In round two, DeNuzio carded three birdies and an eagle en route to an even-par 72. She then matched her even-par 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 22nd.
Fellow Big 12 member Houston (272-276-268—816) took home the team title after posting a 48-under-par total to win by 13 shots over host North Texas (278-281-270—829). UTSA took third at 27 under with Missouri (289-276-278—843) finishing fourth at 21 under. Nebraska (278-27—288) and Tulsa (279-281-284—844) rounded out the top five in a tie at 20 under.
Juniors Adeline Anderson, Lila Galeai and Washington State transfer Lily McCauley all finished in a tie for 45th at 2-over-par. McCauley posted scores of 73-72-73—218 while Anderson carded rounds of 71-73-74—218 and Galeai shot 73-71-74—218.
Berlin long rounded out the scoring for the BYU team with rounds of 80-76-79—235. Sunbin Seo, playing as an individual, finished tied for 60th after shooting 73-73-77—223.
The Cougars will tee it up next at the Leadership and Golf Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Chambers Bay Golf Course, Sept. 18-19.
