UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA – BYU women’s golf finished 15th at the Leadership and Golf Invitational after carding rounds of 298-302-305–905 to end 40-over-par at Chamber’s Bay Golf Course.
Southern California (276-285-276–837) defeated the competition handily as the Trojans finished 27-under-par, 31 shots ahead of second-place Minnesota (283-285-300–868; +4).
Oregon State (290-295-289–874) and Georgia Southern (294-287-293–874) tied for third, finishing ten-over-par. Fellow Big 12 Conference member USF rounded out the top five as the Knights shot rounds of 289-303-287–879, ending up at 15-over-par.
“We aren’t too happy about this week,” said Carrie Roberts, BYU head coach. “We had some positives but need more of a consistent performance. We are lucky to play such a challenging golf course, which showed us exactly what we need to work on after our long summer off.”
Freshman Lilly DeNunzio led the Cougars, finishing nine-over par (76-71-78–225) and tied for 43rd. Lila Galeai shot 73-77-76–226 to end at 10-over par and tied for 47th.
Adeline Anderson (75-76-77–228) and Lily McCauley (74-78-76–228) each finished 12-over par. MJ Barragan rounded out the squad with rounds of 76-83-76–235 to finish 19-over par.
The Cougars have a week off before they tee it up on Oct. 2-3 at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas State at Lawrence Country Club.
