Barragán headed to the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America later this year

BYU women’s golfer María José "MJ" Barragán secured an invitation to the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America on Tuesday. This tournament invites the top 60 best Latin American women golfers to tee it up at Pilar Golf in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Nov. 13-18.

PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s golfer María José "MJ" Barragán secured an invitation to the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America on Tuesday. This tournament invites the top 60 best Latin American women golfers to tee it up at Pilar Golf in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Nov. 13-18.

Barragán is an incoming freshman for the Cougars who has come to Provo from Morelia, Mexico. In the 2022-23 season, Barragán took home the Zona Centro Regional Tour trophy and was 2nd on the women’s junior golf Mexican rankings. She has also won two national tournaments, the Valley Cup and the GADO Cup.

“It’s a huge deal for Maria to qualify for events, represent her national team and be recognized for her hard work,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “It’ll be great to have some worldwide exposure to the Brigham Young brand as well. We’re super excited for her.”

The ANNIKA Invitational Latin America tournament is the fourth event in the ANNIKA Invitational series of global events. Annika Sörenstam is a Swedish professional golfer often called the greatest female golfer of the current generation and tops the LPGA’s All-Time Money List.

Sörenstam started the ANNIKA events to provide opportunities for people of all ages and levels to learn the game of golf while emphasizing the importance of healthy living.
