PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s swimmers clocked 16 personal-best times in day two at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Missouri on Thursday.
“The swimmers dug deep today to continue the momentum they started yesterday,” said BYU head swimming coach Shari Skabelund. “This was another amazing day with more personal bests. Our kids are tired, but they keep finding a way to get better.”
Kara Martinson and Addison Richards claimed the Cougars’ top finishing spots of the day with two sixth-place finishes. Martinson recorded a personal-best 1:49.25 to take sixth in the 200 free. The freshman from Weddington, North Carolina is now ninth all-time at BYU in the event having surpassed Lauren Taylor (2015).
Richards cut a tenth of a second off her 400 individual medley time to take sixth in the race at 4:23.25.
Freshman Annie Reichner set a personal best in the 100 back at 55.26 and now ranks ninth on the program’s 100 back top-10 board.
Liza Slade (55.47) and Mackenzie Lung (1:02.44) recorded the team’s top times in the 100 back and 100 breast, respectively.
Regan Geldmacher, Megan Bergstrom, Victoria Schreiber and Martinson combined to take fourth in the 800 free relay at 7:19.78. The 200 medley relay foursome of Emma Marusakova, Lung, Slade and Halli Williams trimmed 1.4 seconds off their entry time to finish eighth in the event.
BYU women’s divers began their weekend of competition at the SMU Invite at Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas on Thursday. Alexia Jackson recorded the Cougars’ top score of the day with a 218.25 in the 1-meter.
BYU women’s swim and dive competes again on Friday with competition resuming at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. CST, respectively.
