KANSAS CITY, Mo. — United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have selected Brecken Mozingo as a 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist, based on voting by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.
The three finalists are University of Nebraska senior forward Eleanor Dale (Billingham, England), Florida State University graduate midfielder Onyi Echegini (London, England) and BYU senior forward Brecken Mozingo (Sandy, Utah).
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in college soccer, awarded annually since 1967 for men and 1988 for women. This year’s winner will be announced in a press conference on January 5, 2024, at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by a banquet honoring all this year’s finalists for both women and men.
Mozingo led the Cougars in goals (14), assists (15), points (43) and shots (89) as they finished the season ranked No. 4 in the nation with a 20-3-3 record. The Sandy, Utah native contributed five goals and five assists through the NCAA Tournament, helping BYU advance to its second College Cup in program history, first of its Big 12 Conference era. Mozingo has been a part of both BYU College Cup teams, also being on the roster for the Cougars’ historic run in 2021.
Mozingo becomes the third Cougar to be named a Hermann Trophy finalist, with Mikayla Colohan and Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall being the other two in 2012 and 2021, respectively.
