PROVO, Utah — Jordan Tiffany, Brad Prolo and Luigi Riva each rewrote Richards Building Pool records as BYU men’s swimming took an 88-62 lead over Utah on Friday’s opening of dual meet action.

For the second time in as many home meets, Tiffany toppled his own 200 individual medley pool record. The freshman from Pleasant Grove, Utah shaved 0.94 seconds off his personal best to go 1:44.62 and win the 200 IM. Utah’s Evan VanBrocklin took second at 1:48.08.

Tiffany is now a three-time men’s 200 IM record holder at the Richards Building Pool. He first set the record there as a Lone Peak High School athlete in 2019.

Prolo also kept a pool record to himself on Friday as he edged VanBrocklin to win the 200 fly at 1:44.01. The senior from San Clemente, California previously set the record of 1:46.71 in 2021.

Riva knocked off yet another pool record for BYU as he clocked 19.53 to win the 50 free. The junior from Milan, Italy overcame Payton Sorenson’s pool record 19.83 set in 2019 and tied Connor Stirling (2021) for third-fastest in school history.

The Cougars set the tone for these performances from the get-go with Tiffany, Prolo and Riva joining Tanner Edwards to set a pool-record 1:25.79 in the 200 medley relay. BYU’s “B” squad of Jack Burke, Emerson Edwards, Carson Hamblin and Abraham Zimmerman finished runner-up at 1:27.83 while Utah came in third with a time of 1:27.90.

Diego Camacho Salgado led BYU with 13 individual points after a win in the 100 back and runner-up spot in the 50 free.

The Cougars return to the water to face Utah in the meet’s second day on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST.
