Williams & Geldmacher get All-Big 12 Second Team honors in day two at Big 12 title meet

BYU women’s swimmers Halli Williams and Regan Geldmacher registered top-10 finishes and All-Big 12 Second Team honors in the team’s second day of competition at the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Wednesday.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — BYU women’s swimmers Halli Williams and Regan Geldmacher registered top-10 finishes and All-Big 12 Second Team honors in the team’s second day of competition at the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Wednesday. 

Williams shaved just over a tenth of a second off her preliminary time to clock 22.74 in the 50 free championship final. The junior from Houston, Texas added 23 points for BYU while coming up just nine-hundredths of a second shy of her personal-best.

Geldmacher garnered all-league second team status with a 4:57.06 to finish eighth and score 22 points in the 500 free. The championship final pitted Geldmacher against two of the nation’s best women’s swimmers. Geldmacher faced former top-recruit Erin Gemmell of No. 2 Texas along with the Longhorns’ and Team USA’s 2020 Tokyo Games silver medalist, Erica Sullivan.  

Victoria Schreiber and Megan Bergstrom competed in the 500 free consolation final and added 28 points with Schrieber notching a personal-best 4:53.06.

Mackenzie Lung set a personal best not once but twice on Wednesday with a 200 IM final time of 2:02.86. Lung took 13th in the event for 14 points.

BYU women’s divers saw their first action of the meet with Brooklyn Larson, Sophia DeBergh and Alexia Jackson competing in the team diving event. The Cougar trio totaled 286.55 and took fourth for 52 team points.

"This was a great experience our women can build on," said BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson. "They responded to a new pressure and pulled off some exciting dives."

Through two days of competition, BYU has 258 points and holds a fourth-place spot with just a one-point edge over Cincinnati.
