PAUMA VALLEY, California – BYU men’s golf jumped six spots on the leaderboard after a 5-under-par afternoon round on Monday at the Pauma Valley Invitational. Due to darkness, round two scores were not official until some players finished their final holes on Tuesday morning.

"Zac and Max had solid morning rounds, but the rest of the guys struggled, missing too many greens with short irons and making bogeys on par fives,” BYU Director of Golf Todd Miller said. "We needed some solid rounds in the afternoon, and Peter and Keanu stepped up big time, shooting 9-under combined. We finally started playing the golf I’m used to seeing out of these guys.”

Zac Jones finished the first 36 holes in a tie for sixth after rounds of 68 and 71, heading into the final round at 3-under-par. An afternoon round of 66 helped Peter Kim jump 53 spots on the individual leaderboard, while Keanu Akina’s 67 jumped him 45 spots.

Max Brenchley (70-77–147; +5) and Cooper Jones (77-75–152; +10) round out the scoring for the Cougar squad.

"If we are going to continue moving up the leaderboard, we will need to play the par fives better," Miller said. "We were 2-over on Monday, which was last in the field of 15 teams.”

Round three begins Tuesday with 8 am PDT tee times. Live scoring is available at GolfStat
