SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — BYU men’s golf finished in eighth at the 77th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course on Wednesday. With rounds of 359-356-359–1074, the Cougars posted a 54-hole total of 24-over-par.
The Jones brothers each secured top-20 finishes, with junior Zac Jones finishing in a tie for 14th (68-71-72–211; +1) and freshman Cooper Jones finishing in a tie for 18th (71-73-68–212; +2).
"Pasatiempo was a great test again this year,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "It was great to compete on a course that requires your attention on every shot. We played some good golf this week but made too many mistakes and mental errors. Max had a great round today. It is nice to have him step up and help the team in a big way. Coop also played solid today.”
The Stanford Cardinal took home the team title at 8-over-par, with Washington finishing second at 13-over.
Max Brenchley secured his third top-25 finish of the season with rounds of 71-76-67–214 to finish at 4-over in a tie for 25th. The senior carded five birdies in his final round to jump us 23 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Keanu Akina (71-73-77–221; +11) finished in a tie for 57th, Peter Kim (78-72-73–223; +13) finished in 65th and Brock Goyen (78-69-81–228;+18) finished in 79th.
The Cougars will tee it up next at the Big 12 Championships at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas on Apr. 22-24.
