DALLAS, Texas – BYU women’s golf finished day one of the Texas Showdown in seventh with rounds of 296 and 289 to finish 9-over par. Alexa Udom sits in a tie for seventh at 2-under-par with rounds of 72 and 70.

“It felt really good to have some under-par rounds today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “The girls have been working hard, and it was nice to see it pay off. Experiencing the total solar eclipse was super cool while we played. We had to take a little break because it went completely dark, which was unusual but super cool.”

Around 1:45 pm in Dallas, the Cougars had to take a break due to darkness caused by the eclipse.

Eclipse disrupts women's golf tournament

Baylor holds the number one spot at 12-under, with Maryland at 9-under after the opening 36 holes. UCF (-8) and SMU (-1) also finished at under par.

Udom is the lone Cougar in the Top 10 as the native of Portland, Ore. finshed at 2-under after regstereing one eagle and eight birdies including four straight in her second round of the day.

“It was fun to make a lot of birdies and put together a good round,” Udom said. “It was a really cool experience playing through the solar eclipse! They gave us all glasses, and we had to stop playing because it got completely dark.”

Lily McCauley is tied for 20th at 2-over with Adeline Anderson (T29th), Lila Galeai (T32nd), Maria Jose Barragan (T34th) and Berlin Long (39th) sitting in the Top 40.

Tuesday’s rounds will be match-play, with the Cougars facing off against Texas State in the morning. BYU’s afternoon round matchup will be determined based on the results of the morning round. Scoring can be found on GolfStat.com
