Dallin Shurts moved up from ninth place to eighth on his sixth and final throw of the competition, throwing the discus 59.04-meters/193-8 to become a two-time First Team All-American in his home state of Oregon.

The senior rounds out his collegiate elibility as BYU's all-time school record-holder with his personal best of 66.58m/218-5 achieved at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational on April 12. Shurts is the eighth Cougar in program history to garner multiple All-America honors in the event.

James Corrigan placed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase, running the third-fastest time of his career at 8:29.61 to become a Second Team All-American.

Corrigan extends the program's streak to nine-straight years of a Cougar earning All-America honors in the event. The sophomore from Los Angeles, California was also named an All-American at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships as he placed 32nd.

Aidan Troutner placed 20th in the 5000m with his time of 14:07.16. The junior from Provo, Utah earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in his first-ever outdoor championship. Troutner extended BYU's program streak to seven-straight years that a Cougar qualified for nationals in the 5000m.

Quotes

Ed Eyestone

“I’m super pleased with all of the groups today. Coach Nik Arrhenius has done an awesome job with Dallin and our throws group overall. To have all three throwers earn First Team All-American status is big time. We are red shirting some people on the distance side this year, but I’m proud of the efforts of those that came here today. It’s all about just getting experience with coming to the big meet to become that much stronger next year. It is also nice to have a balanced program because on the years that one group might be down, the other group can rise up. That’s what our throwers did and it helped our program as a whole.”

James Corrigan

"I know I have a greater capacity than I showed tonight, but I'm pleased with the fact that I gave everything I had to get to nationals for the first time. Running two sub-8:30 races is no joke. I'm proud of that and excited to be back at Hayward Field for Olympic Trials."

Kenneth Rooks - 2023 Steeplechase National Champion on Corrigan

"James ran well tonight. He was within a second of his personal best. I am proud of James for going all in on the steeple this year because he was able to discover a lot about himself. Finishing ninth is hard because it is one spot out of being a First Team All-American and I know he wanted that, but James is really fit right now and he has been very consistent running 8:28 and now 8:29 in back-to-back races. He is going to keep getting faster and I'm excited for him."

Aidan Troutner

“While I was disappointed in the race today, it’s my first NCAA outdoor championships, so I just have to learn from it and use it to improve for cross country season in the fall and when I’m back here next season."

Niklas Arrhenius

"Dallin struggled today with some technical issues. I was proud of him squeezing into the finals by one centimeter on his third throw and then on his last throw jumping a place from ninth to eighth to get a point for our team and be a First Team All American. It’s quite amazing when you have an off day and you can still be a First Team All American. That’s how good of an athlete Dallin is."
