BYU represents at Korn Ferry’s Utah Championship

Current and former Cougar golfers completed the final two rounds of 36-hole stroke play Sunday afternoon at Oakridge Country Club.

FARMINGTON, Utah – Current and former Cougar golfers completed the final two rounds of 36-hole stroke play Sunday afternoon at Oakridge Country Club.

Cooper Jones tied for 36 in his second Korn Ferry event. During the third round, he carded 5-under 66 with no bogeys. He shot three birdies on the front nine and finished the back nine with birdies on 15 and 16. Jones finished round four 1-under 70 after three bogeys on four, six and 14. His final scores were 66-67-66-70; 15-under 269. 

The 2020 Utah Championship runner-up, Daniel Summerhays shot 5-under 66 on Saturday after starting the day at par. After birdieing on two and then three times in a row on 14, 15 and 16, he went 4-under and then birdied on 18 to finish day three 5-under. Summerhays completed the Utah Championship in a tie for 13th, when he shot 4-under 67 on Sunday going bogey-free. With a weekend total of 19-under 265, Summerhays finished 64-68-66-67.

Former Cougar, Peter Kuest finished T-49. On Saturday, Kuest birdied four of his final seven holes completing the round 4-under 67. Sunday’s highlights included five birdies for a final score of 69.

Carson Lundell completed the four rounds T-67. He went 1-under 70 on Saturday and 3-under 68 on Sunday, to add to his total score of 10-under 274. 

Recent graduate Max Brenchley hit a notable eagle on par-5 hole two Saturday morning, and finished out round three 3-under 68. Sunday, he shot a 1-over 72 to lead to a total score of 276. 

Cole Ponich also participated in the event but missed Friday evening’s cut. Ponich will join Brenchley, as well as Cougars Zac Jones and Tyson Shelley at this month’s US Am. That event tees off on August 12 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
