FORT WORTH, Texas — BYU junior quarterback Jake Retzlaff was named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 list for week eight of the season for his performance in leading BYU to a 38-35 win over Oklahoma State on Friday to stay unbeaten. In addition, Retzlaff was also added to the official Davey O'Brien Award Midseason Watch List on Monday by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.
Trailing by four points with 1:13 to play in the game, Retzlaff directed a 75-yard drive that including a first-down pass on fourth-and-7 and a 27-yard scramble that set up the 35-yard winning touchdown pass to Darius Lassiter with just 11 seconds left on the clock.
Retzlaff competed 13 of 26 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns against OSU. He also had nine carries for 81 yard and another score.
On the season, Retzlaff has competed 121 of 205 passes for 1,644 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is also the Cougars' leading rusher through seven games with 49 carries for 265 yards and two additional scores.
The Davey O'Brien Award Midseason Watch List will be cut to the 35-player Davey O'Brien Quarterback Class of 2024 on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Fan voting on social media will then earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds.
Semifinalists selected from the 2024 Quarterback Class will be named on Nov. 12. The Foundation will then announce three finalists on Nov. 26. The winner of the 2024 Davey O'Brien Award will be unveiled live on ESPN on Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
The 48th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held Feb. 17, 2025, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
