The Cougars (13-7, 6-4 Big 12) look to get back in the win column after comning up short against No. 13 Arizona State on Thursday night.

BYU held a 2-1 advantage through three sets, but dropped the final two frames to the Sun Devils, 25-14, 15-7.

Led by Claire Little's 20 kills, three Cougar hitters finished in double-figures. Kjersti Strong joined Little with 11 and Brielle Kemavor had 10, with both Kate Prior and Elli Mortensen just behind at eight kills apiece.

Despite leading through three frames, BYU was ultimately out-hit (.258 to .236), out-dug (69 to 60), out-blocked (nine to seven) and out-aced (eight to two) by the Sun Devils, with ASU also recording nine more assists than the Cougars.

After the five-set match, BYU's season hitting percentage dropped to .266, which ranks No. 29 nationally. The Cougars continue to lead the Big 12 in both blocks (208.5) and blocks per set (2.57), statistics they are No. 33 and No. 34 nationally in, respectively.

Kemavor also sits atop the conference in the same metrics, ranking 10th nationwide with 116 total blocks and 19th, averaging 1.43 blocks per set. Little is second in the Big 12 in points (360.5) and third in kills (313).

BYU looks to get back in the win column both on its schedule and against Arizona after falling to the Wildcats in five sets by two points a month earlier.

Arizona (13-7, 2-7 Big 12)

  • The Wildcats lost to Arizona State twice, Utah and Colorado since beating BYU on Oct. 2, picking up a 3-1 win against Houston during that span. Arizona lost in four sets at Utah on Thursday night before making its way to Provo.
  • Head coach Charita Stubbs is also in year two with her program. She is 21-29 (.420) in Tucson, and 43-140 (.235) in her career.
  • BYU leads the all-time series, 24-14. The Wildcats beat the Cougars in five sets and by two points back in October.

The Cougars will remain in the state of Utah and play just one game next week, visiting the Utes in Salt Lake City on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. MST.
