PROVO, Utah – Chamberlain Burgess is the first signee of the 2025 class for BYU men’s basketball, head coach Kevin Young announced on Wednesday morning.
"We’re super expected to add Chamberlain and his family to BYU," Young said. "He has BYU in his blood, and it’s great to have him and his family officially join our program. We love his versatility offensively and defensively with his wide-ranging skill set. His length and athleticism will be a welcomed addition as well. He has so much upside and will only continue to get better."
Burgess, a four-star recruit according to 247Sports and ESPN, signs with the Cougars as the highest-rated recruit who plays in the Utah High School Athletic Association. He will play his senior season at Orem High School after helping the Utah Prospects win their second straight Adidas 3SSB championship this past summer.

2025 / 6’9 PF-C. The most dominant player on the court in the two games I saw. Dangerous trail man who had several free-lane dunks. Solid screensetter who laid a player out. Illinois & BYU visits scheduled later this month.@UtahProspects@OremBasketball pic.twitter.com/S63334b3xB
The 6-foot-9 forward played his junior season at Lone Peak High School, earning Deseret News All-State Honorable Mention accolades after averaging 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. He recorded five double-doubles, including a 20-point, 19-rebound performance against Rancho Cucamonga High School.
Both of Burgess's parents played at BYU with his dad, Josh, appearing in five games during the 2004-05 season. His mom, Ashleigh, appeared in 50 games during her three years in Provo helping the Cougars make the NCAA Tournament in 2002-03.
