First Quarter
The Cougars began the game with a fast-paced quarter. They jumped out to a 9-0 lead from the jump behind a quick score from Congdon and a three from Hudgins. After the ninth point, Idaho was able to get on the board with a layup at the 7:05 mark.
BYU and the Vandals would trade baskets for the rest of the quarter as the quarter would end with a 24-15 advantage for the Cougars. They were pushing the ball throughout the quarter being aggressive on offense and defense.
Second Quarter
The teams opened up the second-quarter trading baskets. The pace slowed for the Cougars with Gibb getting to the line twice during the quarter. She then hit a three to bring her total to 11 points and seven of the BYU's last seven. This brought the lead to 37-23.
The rest of the quarter would move slowly for both teams as BYU scored five points in the last five minutes whereas Idaho scored just three. The Cougars would take a 42-26 lead into the break.
BYU racked up 10 assists on 15 made baskets in the opening half. They were led in scoring and assists by Gibb with 11 points and 3 assists and rebounds by Emma Calvert and Hudgins.
Third Quarter
As the Cougars came out of halftime with a 16-point lead it took them a minute to find their first basket of the half. Calvert changed that with a post-up to bring her total to 10 points. Despite the Calvert bucket, the Vandals started the half on a 7-2 run.
Gibb ended that run with a fast break layup assisted by Whiting. On the ensuing possession, Calvert took a charge and Whiting was able to get a layup on the next possession to bring the lead back to 15.
The teams then began trading baskets but Idaho was able to eat away at the lead ending the quarter down by just 10.
Fourth Quarter
Hudgins got the first Cougar basket of the fourth quarter in response to a layup from the Vandals. Idaho held BYU scoreless for nearly six minutes and then scored eight straight to cut the BYU lead to just two. The Vandals squared it up at 57 with 2:32 to play before Gibb retook a two-point lead with a layup off an assist from Whiting.
With the game tied at 59, Congdon found Heather Hamson for a wide-open layup to retake the lead. On the next Cougar possession after a stop as the shot clock was winding down, Whiting found Congdon outside for a deep three to give BYU the five-point lead with 31 seconds left.
The Vandals responded with a three of their own bringing the lead to just two and 20 seconds on the clock. Whiting was fouled and made 1-2 free throws. Gibb then recorded a timely steal for the Cougars and was fouled immediately to stop the clock. Gibb made both free throws to give the Cougars a five-point lead with 12 seconds to go and seal the victory
