COUGARS (6-2)

The Cougars remained at No. 5 in week three of the 2025 AVCA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Poll. Before this season, the Cougars had not been ranked in the top-five since their 2021 season when BYU finished as the NCAA National Runner-Up. Overall, BYU has been ranked in the top-10 since February 6, 2023 for a total of 32 consecutive weeks in a row.

BYU fell in two matches against the No. 2 UC Irvine Anteaters on the road last week, dropping a five-set match on Wednesday and 3-0 match on Friday. Teilon-Jonathan Tufuga led all players in kills with 24 kills over the weekend while Keoni Thiim recorded a team-high six aces.

Thiim leads the NCAA in kills with 125, averaging 3.91 kills per set. He has the third-most aces in the NCAA with 18.

RAINBOW WARRIORS (6-0)

Hawaii is one of seven remaining undefeated programs in the NCAA this season, going 6-0. UH has not seen action since a match on Fri., Jan. 17 where the Rainbow Warriors swept Princeton 3-0. Hawaii is led by freshman outside hitter Adrien Roure, with a team-high 75 kills. Hawaii also holds the third-highest team hitting percentage in the country, holding a .389 clip.

BYU has fallen to Hawaii in Provo only four times in men's volleyball history, with Hawaii earning wins in 1995, 2001, 2003 and 2019 for a commanding 25-4 all-time record for the Cougars in the Smith Fieldhouse.

COUGARS VS. RAINBOW WARRIORS

The last matchup between the two programs occurred in the 2021 NCAA Finals where BYU fell 3-0 in Columbus, Ohio. The last regular season matchup between the schools happened in Honolulu in 2020 where Hawaii snapped BYU’s perfect 16-0 record. It was also BYU’s last game of the season as a result of the 2020 pandemic, going 16-1 when the season got cut short.

The last time BYU defeated Hawaii in Provo was on March 18, 2017. The Cougars swept Hawaii in back-to-back games in their 2017 season, defeating the Rainbow Warriros in straight sets in both matches.
