IRVINE, Calif. — The No. 7 BYU men's volleyball team is set to face Concordia University Irvine for its first conference matchup of the 2025 season, with back-to-back matches on Thursday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 14.

COUGARS (8-4)

The Cougars dropped one spot to No. 7 in Week 4 of the 2025 AVCA National Collegiate MVB Poll. Overall, BYU has been ranked in the top-10 since February 6, 2023 for a total of 34 consecutive weeks in a row.

BYU swept No. 15 UC Santa Barbara in back-to-back matches in the Smith Fieldhouse last weekend, bouncing back after a four-game losing streak. Keoni Thiim led all players in kills with 18, including two aces.

Teon Taylor led BYU’s defensive efforts with 12 blocks, earning himself the title of MPSF Defensive Player of the Week after a season-high 11 blocks in Saturday’s matchup. This was the third POW honor for the Cougars in 2025 and Taylor’s sixth career honor.

GOLDEN EAGLES (4-6)

The Golden Eages are coming off a 3-1 loss against No. 2 UC Irvine, their third match against a ranked opponent. Graduate student Kasey Clouet put up four solo blocks in the match, tying the CUI all-time record in a single match.

CUI is currently on a five-game losing streak, including losses against No. 1 Long Beach State and No. 14 UC Santa Barbara. 

The Golden Eagles are led by pin hitters Makua Marumoto and Ties Cornelissen who have 63 and 61 kills, respectively. 

COUGARS VS. GOLDEN EAGLES

CUI has only defeated BYU twice in men’s volleyball history, with CUI’s last win occurring in Irvine in a five-match set in 2019. The first year the two teams appeared in a match occurred in 2017. BYU is currrently on an 11-game win streak against CUI, holding a 14-2 overall record.
