ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sami Oblad broke the BYU 400-meter school record at the Albuquerque Convention Center and Lexy Halladay-Lowry broke the 3000m school record at Dempsey Indoor Saturday afternoon.

Oblad ran a lifetime best of 51.71 in the 400m to win the event in New Mexico and break the BYU school record by 1.3 seconds. The senior from Stansbury Park, Utah is currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA with Saturday's time. 

"I was focused on executing a race that matched our training and enjoying it," said Oblad. "I was lucky to get into a competitive heat that resulted in the perfect setup to run the way I wanted. This race gives me a chance to run on some pretty big stages and I am looking forward to running my heart out with my family and teammates around me."

Oblad also anchored BYU's 4x400m team of Emily Ellis-Dalley, Cate Phipps Louis and Paje Rasmussen to a sixth-place finish and the squad's fastest time of the 2025 indoor season with a time of 3:40.49. 

Other top performances from the Don Kirby Elite Invitational include Phipps Louis' 7.55 personal best and the Cougars' No. 9 all-time mark in the 60m. Rebekah Erikson and Maren Garnett each cleared  4.21m/13-9.75 clearances in the pole vault for eighth and 10th place, respectively.

Halladay-Lowry clocked an NCAA-leading time of 8:40.60 in the 3000m to break the previous program record by over nine seconds. The senior from Meridian, Idaho is now ranked No. 3 all-time in the NCAA in the event.

The BYU women recorded three additional top-10 performances in the 3000m with Riley Chamberlain coming in at No. 2 all-time as she clocked 8:40.89, Jenna Hutchins at No. 5 all-time with 8:52.31 and Carmen Alder No. 9 all-time with 9:02.56. 

Carlee Hansen improved upon her personal best in the mile as she placed fifth with a time of 4:33.04. The senior's time is No. 7 all-time at BYU. 

Other top performances from Seattle include Meghan Hunter's 53.86 win in the 400m and true freshman Tessa Buswell's 2:04.39 fourth-place finish in the 800m.
