GAME 2 BOX SCORE
Game 1: BYU 3 | Washington 1
Starter Kaysen Korth dazzled in the circle with 12 strikeouts as the Cougars (7-2, 0-0 Big 12) picked up a big win over the Huskies.
Player Highlights
- Ilove’a Brittingham: 2-3, 2 RBI
- Danica Acosta: 2-3
- Kaysen Korth (W, 5-0): 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 K
Danica Acosta led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third as Lindy Milkowski walked on a wild pitch. BYU then executed a double steal, with Milkowski staying in the run down long enough to Acosta to score.
Washington tied the game at one apiece in the top of the second after a two-out error led to a single dropping into right and the Husky runner sliding in just before Milkowski’s tag at home.
The Cougars retook the lead in the third after a Lauren Flanders walk, Acosta slap single and Aleia Agbayani single through the right side. With two outs, Ilove’a Brittingham poked an 0-2 pitch into right field, scoring two for the 3-1 lead.
UW made things interesting in the top of the seventh with back-to-back one out singles, but a pop out and fielder’s choice, both on the first pitch of the at-bat, sealed the victory for BYU.
Game 2: CSUN 6 | BYU 2
Bre Townsend and Brittingham each homered, but it wasn’t enough a pair of three-spots from the Matadors kept the Cougars (7-3, 0-0 Big 12) at bay.
Player Highlights
- Bre Townsend: 2-3, 2B, HR, RBI
- Ilove’a Brittingham: 1-3, HR, RBI
- Kate Dahle: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
The Matadors jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, batting through their order and hitting a 3-run homer to left field.
Townsend helped BYU cut into the CSUN lead in the bottom of the third inning with a home run to left center, the first of her collegiate career, but the Cougars wouldn’t do more damage for another three innings.
Responding in the fourth, the Matadors picked up a triple, pair of walks and bases-clearing double to extend their lead back out, making it 6-1.
Brittingham launched the first ball she saw to lead off the sixth inning way above the left field fence and it was a 6-2 game, but after Townsend opened the seventh with a double, BYU went down in order to close out the loss.
