In the doubles portion, BYU got down a set as Gulieri/Arsic beat Edmonston/Owen as the first to finish. The Cougars in the other two sets were on serve each trying to find a break. Soon after the end of the first set, Thayne/Fuchs broke the Red Raider team at 4-4, which put them up 4-5 in position to serve for it. With this momentum they held serve and took the set.

On court two, Wells/Goldammer stayed on serve throughout their set. They found themselves at 6-6 and went to a tiebreak. In the breaker, the Cougars got down early going into the changeover down 2-4. They then won five of the next six points to put the set on ice to secure the doubles point.

BYU was unable to secure a singles win, despite having multiple matches with tiebreaks involved, and two matches still being played when Texas Tech reached four.

Big 12 play began this weekend for the Cougars on Thursday against Oklahoma State. They took that match all the way to the end as the teams were tied at 3-3 with just R. Owen’s match still being played. He would fall 6-3 in the final set as the Cowboys secured the match.

However, BYU was able to earn the doubles point in both competitions. Their doubles points were led by wins from No. 81 Thayne/Fuchs against two ranked teams, beating No. 48 at Oklahoma State and No. 80 at Texas Tech.
