Eleven BYU swimmers finish season at National Invitational Championship

Eleven BYU men’s and women’s swimmers completed their collegiate competition season at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship at Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training March 13-15.

OCALA, Fla. — Eleven BYU men’s and women’s swimmers completed their collegiate competition season at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship at Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training March 13-15.

Darwin Anderson earned three top-10 finishes in event finals, including a meet-best third in the 400 individual medley on March 14. Anderson cut 4.93 seconds off his entry time to finish in 3:50.86, good for seventh all-time at BYU. The junior from Rock Springs, Wyoming added a fifth-place spot in the 1000 free and ninth in the 500.

Nathaniel Eliason capped a freshman season highlighted by three Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Week honors with two top-10 finishes in individual events as well as helping BYU’s 400 medley relay team to eighth-place. Eliason improved his personal best in the 100 fly to 47.55 in Friday’s preliminary race before cutting to 47.17 in the final. The Mechanicsville, Virginia native now ranks No. 10 all-time at BYU.

Eliason’s 47.52 leadoff 100 back added him to the program’s 100 back top 10 board at fifth.

Max Kleinman, Tyler Edlefsen and Peter Etzold each recorded program top 10 times in the 100 IM on Saturday. Kleinman put up a personal-best 49.04 for BYU’s second-fastest 100 IM while Edlefsen followed at No. 3 with 49.60 and Etzold’s 50.86 in sixth.

Lucy Warnick advanced to finals in three individual events with a meet-best 14th-place finish in the 200 IM at 2:02.05. Ellie Boyer, Elle Decker and Lucy Marek also competed in Ocala for the BYU women. Boyer helped the Cougars’ 200 medley relay squad cut 0.34 seconds off their entry time and competed in three time trials. Decker registered her best finish of the meet in the 200 fly at 2:04.21. Marek’s best finish of the meet came in the 200 fly at 2:04.81.
