SAN MARCOS, Texas — Senior Maren Garnett tied BYU's No. 2 all-time spot in the outdoor pole vault Friday afternoon at the Texas State Track & Field Complex.
Bobcat Invitational / San Marcos, Texas
Garnett cleared 4.30-meters/14-1.25 on her third attempt to place third in the field and tie for the Cougars' No. 2 rank with Anginae Monteverde from 2015. A native of Spearman, Texas, Garnett holds the program's indoor record in the event with a 4.46m/14-7.50 jump at the 2025 Big 12 indoor championships.
"Today was a good mental primer for tomorrow’s competition at Texas Relays and for competing outdoors moving forward," said Garnett. "Things are beginning to line up for bigger poles and bigger jumps soon."
Teammate Rebekah Erikson placed fifth in the pole vault with her 4.20m/13-9.25 jump. Erikson owns the program's outdoor record in the event with a 4.31m/14-1.75 clearance at the 2024 Big 12 outdoor championships.
Zoey Bonds won the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 5020 points. The junior from Las Vegas, Nevada earned personal bests in all three day-two events. Bonds long jumped 5.57m/18-3.25, threw the javelin 33.15m/108-9 and ran 2:29.89 in the 800m.
Summer Young placed fourth in her debut heptathlon. The freshman scored 4588 points and capped off her day with a personal best of 2:28.62 in the 800m.
Cameron Bliss placed 8th in the combined event with 4559 points. The junior won the javelin portion of competition with a personal-best throw of 5.63m/116-10.
Texas Relays / Austin, Texas
The Cougars' sprint medley relay team placed fourth in the invitational section with a time of 3:51.73. The squad consisted of Katie Hutchings and Paje Rasmussen in the 200m, Emily Ellis-Dalley in the 400m and Sami Oblad in the 800m.
Rasmussen also set a personal best of 11.73 in the 100m to place seventh in the timed final sections.
Utah Valley Invitational / Orem, Utah
Gretchen Hoekstre won the shot put and the discus in Orem. The senior launched 53.17m/174-5 in the discus and threw a season best of 16.01m/52-6.25 in the shot put. Freshman teammate Kat Beachler placed second in the shot put with a mark of 14.42m/47-3.75.
Lizzie Dildine opened up her 2025 outdoor season with a win in the 3000m steeplechase running 10:33.79. Raygan Peterson finished in second with a time of 10:38.89.
Violett Taylor, Madelynne Taggart, Mikensi Smith and Annie Nuttall clocked 3:57.82 for the win in the 4x400m relay.
Alyssa Keller placed second in the javelin with a throw of 44.98m/147-6.75 and Beachler placed third with 42.75m/140-3.
Other top performances from the Utah Valley Invitational include Smith's third-place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.30 and fifth-place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.32. Nuttall and Taggart placed fourth and fifth in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:03.16 and 1:03.77. Jayda Lee placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 43.91m/144-0.75, Brooklyn Montgomery placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 43.51m/142-9 and Remy Romney ran a personal best of 14.60 in the 100m hurdles for seventh place.
