Manhattan, Kan. — Despite two quick doubles victories and two hard-fought singles wins, BYU (16-7, 6-4 Big 12) lost to Kansas State 4-3 on Thursday, Apr. 3.

Two 6-1 victories by doubles teams Huang/Tan and Levelston/Tullis gave BYU a 1-0 lead going into the round of singles play.

Bluestein was forced to forfeit her match in the first set due to an injury, tying the score 1-1. 

Levelston's first set went to a tiebreak, which she won 7-1. She closed out the match after winning the second set 6-3, regaining the lead for the Cougars 2-1.

Despite losing the first set, Tan came back in the second set with a 6-1 victory. After a close third set, she lost the match.

Kovick took her first set 6-1 but lost the next two, resulting in the Wildcats' first lead of the match, 3-2.

Huang came back from a set-one loss by winning six-straight games in the second set to tie the match. Despite a closer third set, Huang closed out the match 6-4, tying the score 3-3.

Smith won her first set and barely lost the second in a 7-5 tiebreak. After being down 5-0 in the third set, she sought a comeback and won the next two games. Her opponent sealed the match with a final game victory, and Kansas State defeated BYU 4-3.
