The Cougars (24-10, 7-5 Big 12) picked up a 12-7 midweek win against Utah Tech on Tuesday night, fueled by eight RBI from Keila Kamoku, who tied a school record in the contest after launching a grand slam and three-run jack to go along with an RBI single.

Tied at five in the fifth inning after the Trailblazers evened the game in the fourth, Lindy Milkowski broke the deadlock, lacing a two-run homer down the left field line to put BYU back in front for good.

Gianna Mares and Jada Villegas combined for 3.2 innings of work in the game, with Kaysen Korth closing out the contest and earning the win after going three and a third and allowing no earned runs.

Now in third place in the Big 12 after winning their series at Iowa State last weekend to own the tiebreaker over the Cyclones, the Cougars look to continue their momentum against UCF.

BYU hit .341 as a team in Ames, backed by averages of .600 by Lily Owens, .556 from Ilove'a Brittingham and .400 by Aleia Agbayani. Milkowski (.375) and Kamoku (.300) both turned in heavy-hitting weeks as well.

Brittingham led the way with nine RBI and three home runs. Milkowski homered twice and Owens turned in a solo shot in the three-game set against the Cyclones.

Kate Dahle saw the majority of the Cougars' innings against Iowa State, posting a 2.62 ERA and 1-1 record on eight innings pitched with nine strikeouts. Villegas went 6.1, picking up a win while tallying six strikeouts on two appearances.

After the offensive outburst in Ames, BYU leads the Big 12 in home runs per game (1.56) and is second in total home runs (53), RBI per game (6.00), scoring (6.50) and slugging percentage (.538). The Cougars are also third in the league in fielding percentage (.969), hit batters (15), on-base percentage (.404), RBI (204) and total runs (221).

Individually, BYU has Brittingham, Kaysen Korth and Owens atop the conference's ranks as well. Brittingham paces the Big 12 in batting average (.439), home runs (14), home runs per game (0.41), RBI (52), RBI per game (1.53) and total bases (96) while Korth's four saves and Owens' 1.09 runs per game are also league leaders.

With last year's series in Orlando marking the first meetings between the two teams, the Cougars look to even their series with the Knights as UCF visits Provo for the first time.

UCF (23-17-1, 4-8 Big 12)

  • With the Knights sweeping the three-game set a year ago, UCF leads the all-time series, 3-0.
  • Games one and three of the series were decided by one run, while the Knights beat the Cougars by five in game two.
