PROVO, Utah — BYU’s James Corrigan has been named as one of 10 semifinalists for track’s most prestigious award The Bowerman, the USTFCCCA announced on Thursday afternoon.

Beginning in 2009, The Bowerman – named after legendary track & field coach and co-founder of Nike, Bill Bowerman – is bestowed to collegiate track & field’s top male and female athlete of the year.

The 2024 Olympian is one of three athletes from the Big 12 represented on the list joining Oklahoma State’s Brian Musau and Baylor’s Nathaniel Ezekiel.

Corrigan capped off his junior season with a national title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He became the fifth runner in program history to win a steeplechase title running 8:16.41, the fastest winning time at the national meet since Henry Rono ran a meet record 8:12.39 in 1978.

The Mountain Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year was the high point scorer at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships with wins in the steeplechase and 5,000-meters. He defended his title in the steeplechase running 8:22.20 to break his own meet record. He followed that up with another meet record, 13:25.46 en route to winning the 5,000m and becoming the first Cougar since Kyle Perry in 2009 to win two distance events at the same conference meet.

Finalists for The Bowerman will be announced on July 8. The winner is chosen by The Bowerman voters who consist of national and regional media personnel, track & field statisticians, NCAA collegiate administrators, past winners and Presidents of affiliated organizations.
