BYU moved up two spots from No. 19 to No. 17 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll after splitting its Big 12 slate last week, falling to then-No. 7 Arizona State in five sets at home before earning a sweep at Texas Tech.
The Cougars (16-3, 4-3 Big 12) have split their Conference matches in three of the four weeks to begin league play. BYU beat Houston in four sets during the first of its two single-game weeks a pair of weekends ago.
Freshman outside hitter Suli Davis picked up her third Big 12 Rookie of the Week honor on Tuesday after recording 44 kills on a .320 clip for the Cougars last week, averaging 5.5 kills per set.
Davis posted her third double-double of the season in a 25-kill, 11-dig match against the Sun Devils, her third game this year with 20+ kills. She also contributed 19 digs, two assists and service aces apiece and one block.
She was joined by Claire Little Chambers (28 kills), Brielle Kemavor (15 kills) and Sophia Callahan (13 kills) in double figures, with Alex Bower dishing out 87 assists on the week.
Emma Barbero (21), Davis (19), Lulu Uluave (18), Claire Little Chambers (18) and Alex Bower (16) each tallied double-digit digs for BYU.
Kemavor and Callahan led the way with eight blocks each, including Callahan's first-career solo block, a stuff that sealed the Cougars' sweep of the Red Raiders. Abby Hoybjerg also added five blocks of her own.
Just under halfway through Big 12 play, BYU leads the league in asssist per set (13.36), hitting percentage (.280) and kills per set (14.3). The Cougars are second in the Conference in aces per set (1.77), total assists (922) and total service aces (122).
Bower paces the Big 12 in both assists per set (10.86) and total assists (749). She ranks No. 6 and No. 10 nationally in the those statistical categories. Kemavor's .388 season hitting percentage is second in the league, and Davis' 298 total kills rank third.
With two more Top 25 matches ahead, BYU looks to improve on its 1-1 record against ranked opponents in 2025, beginning with its first visit to Waco in series history.
