Cougars Wrap Up Battle for the Boot Open in Fort Worth

BYU women’s tennis concluded the Battle for the Boot Open in Fort Worth with multiple singles and doubles wins over opponents from TCU, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, Nebraska and Baylor.

FORT WORTH, Texas — BYU women’s tennis wrapped up three days of competition at the Battle for the Boot Open, held Oct. 23–25 at TCU, recording a series of strong results in both singles and doubles play.

The Cougars opened Thursday with a pair of doubles wins. Gracie Levelston and Kendall Kovick defeated Notre Dame’s Rylie Hanford and Mari-Louise Van Zyl, 7-6 (5), while YuYun Chen and Bella Lewis earned a 6-3 win over Notre Dame’s Jessica Kovalcik and Esther Vyrlan. Sage Bergeson and Karina Mohamed dropped their opener to TCU’s Maya Drozd and Cayetana Gay, 6-3.

In singles play, Levelston battled back to top TCU’s Cayetana Gay, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3, and Chen edged TCU’s Letizia Corsini, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Kovick, Mohamed, Bergeson and Lewis each came up short against TCU opponents.

Friday featured several wins across the lineup. Levelston and Kovick posted a 6-3 doubles victory over Texas Tech’s Hailey Murphy and Kseniia Logvin, and Bergeson and Mohamed defeated Texas Tech’s Ella Brownback and TCU’s Letizia Corsini, 6-1. In singles, Levelston defeated Rice’s Francesca Maguina, 6-1, 6-2, while Chen, Mohamed, Bergeson and Lewis each added wins against Rice players.

The Cougars finished the weekend Saturday with doubles and singles matchups against SMU, Nebraska and Baylor. Levelston and Kovick earned a 6-3 win over SMU’s Caroline McGinley and Allie Bittner. In singles, Levelston defeated Baylor’s Alian Zack, 7-6 (4), 7-5, Kovick beat Luna Ivkovic, 6-1, 6-3, and Chen, Mohamed, Bergeson and Lewis each recorded victories over Nebraska opponents.
