PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s tennis team opened the ITA Mountain Regional Championships Tuesday with multiple wins in singles and doubles, highlighted by freshman Sage Bergeson qualifying for the singles main draw.

Bergeson began the day with a straight-set victory over Boise State’s Stella Beldiman, 6-2, 6-1. Later, she overcame a set deficit to defeat Wyoming’s Silver Bijlsma, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, securing her place in the main draw.

In singles action, Bella Lewis fell 6-2, 6-1 to Utah’s Hayley Roberts.

BYU also had success in doubles. YuYun Chen and Bergeson defeated Northern Arizona’s Leontina Stojanovic and Andrea Noguera, 8-3, while Lewis and Karina Mohamed earned an 8-2 victory over New Mexico State’s Montana Parkinson-Lubold and Emma Petton. Additionally, the doubles team of Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston received a first-round bye. With these results, three BYU doubles teams — Chen/Bergeson, Lewis/Mohamed, and Kovick/Levelston — advance to the round of 32.
