PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis posted several key wins Thursday at the ITA Mountain Regional, advancing in both singles and doubles as the tournament heads toward the semifinals.

In singles action, Kendall Kovick cruised past Colorado State’s Sorcha Caves, 6-1, 6-2, while Gracie Levelston bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Northern Arizona’s Natalie Rainke, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Karina Mohamed fell in a three-set match to UNLV’s Nikol Mircheva, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Levelston continued her strong run in the Round of 16 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Utah’s Kaila Barksdale, advancing to the singles quarterfinals, while Kovick was edged out by Kansas State’s Tereza Polakova, 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3.

On the doubles side, Levelston and Kovick advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 win over Colorado State’s Avelar and Caves, moving one step closer to a doubles championship match. YuYun Chen and Sage Bergeson recorded an 8-7 (7-5) win over Air Force in an extra doubles match.

Extra singles matches included Bella Lewis defeating New Mexico State’s Anna Pinaieva, 6-4, 2-6, [10-8], YuYun Chen topping Colorado’s Rixt Van Der Werff, 6-4, 7-5, and Sage Bergeson falling to Colorado’s Lani Brotman, 6-4, 6-4.

BYU will resume play Friday morning in Provo as the Mountain Regional moves into its final rounds.
