Director of track and field Ed Eyestone announced the addition of five incoming student-athletes as part of the 2026 recruiting class on Thursday.

PROVO, Utah – BYU announced the signing of five men’s Track and Field athletes this week.

These five athletes will join a BYU squad that produced 16 All-Americans in the 2024-25 seasons and returns eight of those again this season.

The states of Utah, Oregon, Tennessee and Colorado are represented in the 2026 class of signees. These five athletes will compete for BYU during the 2026-27 track and field seasons.

Signing_Spencer,Jackson

Jackson Spencer

Provo, UT | Herriman High School

The 5-foot-11 Provo native attends Herriman High School and is the first one in his direct family to run cross country. He was also recruited by Oklahoma State before signing with BYU.

Notable Accomplishments:

  • Finished 7th overall at 2024 Nike Cross Nationals
  • Four time Utah State Champion
  • Set the 4x800m High School Natonal Record (7:26.12)
  • Finished 6th overall at Hoka Festival of Miles
  • All-American in the 5000m at the New Balance Indoor Nationals

Austin Plewe

Pleasant Grove, UT | American Fork High School

The 6-foot-1 Pleasant Grove native attends American Fork High School. He was also recruited by Stanford, North Carolina and Oklahoma State before signing with BYU.

The 5-foot-8 Highlands Ranch native attends ThunderRidge High School. He was also recruited by Wake Forest, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Oklahoma State and Stanford before signing with BYU.

The 6-foot-0 Knoxville native attends Indian Hills Community College.

  • All-National team in the 800m

Malachi Schoenherr

Eugene, OR | Sheldon High School

The 6-foot-1 Eugene native attends Sheldon High School and wants to pursue a degree in sports marketing. He was also recruited by Oregon, Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, North Carolina and Washington before signing with BYU. 

Notable Accomplishments:

  • Two time Oregon State Champion
  • Holds the 4th place all-time Oregon state record in the 3000m
  • Four time All-American
