PROVO, Utah — BYU’s Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston will compete at the NCAA National Doubles Championships this week in Orlando, Florida, marking the program’s latest appearance on the national stage. Tournament play begins Wednesday and continues throughout the week.
Kovick, a senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, and Levelston, a junior from Vero Beach, Florida, return for their second seasons at BYU and enter the event after a strong fall season as a newly formed doubles team. Despite not playing alongside one another last year, the pair quickly developed into one of BYU’s most steady combinations, earning a place in the national field through consistent results at early-season tournaments.
The Cougars open against San Diego State’s Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, a duo that emerged as one of the Mountain West’s strongest teams during fall tournament play. Chan and Turley earned the league’s automatic NCAA qualifying berth by winning the ITA Conference Masters Doubles Championship and entered the Mountain West Fall Qualifier as the No. 1 overall seed.
Turley, a freshman, has made an immediate impact for the Aztecs with standout results in her first collegiate season, including a dominant 8–3 win at the ITA Southwest Regionals. Her early success, paired with Chan’s experience and 18 doubles wins last year, gives San Diego State a balanced and competitive pairing.
This week’s appearance continues BYU’s history of sending doubles teams to ITA national events, with previous qualifiers in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 2006, 2022 and 2023.
